This is a blog format website featuring Flying Free and several other associated bands in the Coulee Region (Southwest Wisconsin) that I hope will grow with contributions from viewers… like you! We are at the end April 2019 and a lot has happened this year. Original and only Flying Free bassist Eric Melby passed away, then I lost my Dad on 2/1. It’s taken me until today just to get just a small bit of info into this site. I felt bad that I didn’t get this free version posted to the web, but the other version that I was working on in college had been available a couple years ago. At any rate, I hope I can navigate my way through this site and get people to comment and participate with info, memories, photos and whatever can expose the world to the magic of Flying Free. I’d like to dedicate this site to the memory of Eric Melby, who was a huge influence on me as a bass player and I’m sure to others in many ways. I humbly seek permission for use on all materials and will comply for any requests to remove copyrighted items. -Kurt Krause

Much later! Commenting on my own blog. Duh. 1/28/2016 and I’m working on remastering the Flying Free Fairgrounds 74 tapes in Garageband. Dropping a lot of the midrange out, which helps a lot, but there’s still distortion and Lennie is not keen on releasing them widely. They sound better compared side by side. Haven’t heard from Lennie for years. They tell me he’s still out there! His second CD “Artifakt” is out and a must have!
